The Florida Fish and
Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) received reports of declining population
of certain species. One of these is the giant Caribbean
sea anemone Condylactis gigantea;
a cold snap in 2010 killed off most reef-associated species. To compensate, as
reported in ABC 7,
they initiated a three year moratorium prohibiting the commercial and
recreational harvest of the giant Caribbean sea
anemone to allow the species to rebuild its population. They also added to
draft a proposal about the future management of this species.
There were other changes
and clarifications made by the FWC to marine life management. To learn more
